Zingmagazine, Michael Ashkin's Meadowlands
“I am curious about your choice to often not include humans in your images—how do you see our role as individuals or as a society with the production and transformation of space and how do we distinguish between nature and not-nature/man-made? Is that a distinction that matters to your work?”
Los Angeles Times, L.A. Goes Out
“Ana Maria Devis will debut her first U.S. solo show, “Proliferation,” at FOYER-LA in Chinatown. Devis’ sculptures and drawings are site-specific, connecting nature-inspired large-scale sculptures with drawings on the wall, thereby transforming the space into a Colombian ecosystem. For example, large tree branches are covered in makeup remover pads and stitched strands of hair to create a mesmerizing depiction of nature.”
Zingmagazine, Connie Walsh’s Sculpture In the 2nd Dimension
“Working within a wide range of media including sculpture, installation, and performance, Connie Walsh uses her work to explore the transitional space between interior and exterior, intimacy and detachment, private and public, self and other. Currently working in Los Angeles, her work has been presented in numerous exhibitions throughout the country, including solo shows at Marianne Boesky Gallery and SculptureCenter in New York.”
POOL, Residue, Issue No. 8, Spring 2023
“Sticky Fingers’ playfully refers to forms of residue left by the exhibition ‘suspended, unsited’ at FOYER-LA. It refers to getting our hands dirty during creative processes, where we find ourselves in a flow of events. In the studio, the place is messy and the processes are often non-linear. It is a testing ground: a laboratory for creative problem-solving, lateral thinking and experimentation. We proceed more often through experiencing failure than success.”
Zingmagazine, Connie Walsh: proximity
“FOYER-LA is headed into its third year of small-scale but provocative exhibitions—ranging from the first Los Angeles show for James Rose to new perspectives on Maya Deren. The current show, “Proximity,” an installation by founder Connie Walsh, explores the possibility of intimacy and community in our fragile post pandemic world.”
